Johnny Shell

Johnny Shell has served as Vice President, Print Technology & Training for SGIA since 1998. In this role, he directs and coordinates the activities of the Technical Services department and works to educate the industry on the capabilities and viability of specialty printing. Shell also teaches numerous workshops annually, and his technical writings appear regularly in several top industry publications in the U.S. and abroad. In addition, Mr. Shell is a frequent speaker at industry events and trade show expositions both domestically and internationally. He has worked in the specialty imaging industry for over 30 years, with experience that includes industrial, graphic, and apparel printing. He has won numerous printing awards throughout his career and is a member of the Academy of Screen & Digital Printing Technology, an international body of experts which honors qualified individuals through election to membership for their distinguished, long-term contributions to, and application and promotion of, screen and digital printing and associated imaging technologies for graphic, textile, industrial and electronic printing applications.

SkillsUSA and Sustaining Print's Future Workforce

June 24 - 28 marked the 55th annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC) — a national championship for career and technical trade students — in Louisville, Ky. The event holds over 100 skills competitions, including Screen Printing Technology and Graphics Imaging–Sublimation, which SGIA and industry leaders have managed for eight years.

The Story of Golden Image

SGIA is now accepting entries for the 2018 Golden Image Competition. The competition was established for the members of the Screen Printing Association International (SPAI) and was first held in Chicago at SCREEN PRINT ’80. Originally named “Golden Squeegee,” the competition featured 27 categories which has now grown to 53 categories. There’s a category for everyone, no matter what community you are in or product you print. In keeping with industry trends, the competition name was changed in 1993 to the Golden Image Competition.
