Whether you’ve perused the student prints at the SGIA Expo’s Golden Image Gallery, or been a past participant, the Academy of Screen and Digital Print Technologies (ASDPT) Tom Frecska Student Printing Competition has had a decade-long presence celebrating and inspiring print’s future. I know when I was studying Graphic Communications Technology at Millersville University, my peers and I strove to create “WOW” prints in hopes that we could have the opportunity for others to see our work, and be awarded, too!

Right Brain Meets Left Brain

Aaron Draplin of Draplin Design Co. was a featured speaker at last month’s THREADX Conference at the Kona Kai Resort in San Diego. Also having led a sold-out, two-hour designer workshop the day before the event, he presented a dynamic, thought-provoking mind-bender to the entire conference titled “Things that Don’t Have a Thing to Do with Graphic Design.”

Investing in Printing's Future

Thanks to the generosity of industry donors, SGIA has had the privilege of awarding its annual scholarship to students pursuing the printing and graphic communications fields. We are currently accepting 2019 scholarship applications through April 30, which will provide 20 recipients $2,000 each. I spoke with Tesa Pearman, a past recipient, to see what she's been up to, and how the scholarship has helped further inspire her career path.

This Time, It was Personal

With THREADX year two in the books, all I can say is I am looking forward to year three! It was great to see how many new people came out this year as well as the familiar faces who had joined us for the inaugural event in Palm Springs last year; I would say it was a solid split down the middle.
