Before summer gets into full swing, I strongly encourage and invite all secondary and post-secondary graphic communications students to submit their favorite print from this year in the 2019 ASDPT Tom Frecska Student Printing Competition!

It’s an opportunity to not only take pride in what you achieved, but to also show off your hard work to the printing industry at large (all entries will be displayed in the PRINTING United Golden Image Gallery).

Investing in Printing's Future

Thanks to the generosity of industry donors, SGIA has had the privilege of awarding its annual scholarship to students pursuing the printing and graphic communications fields. We are currently accepting 2019 scholarship applications through April 30, which will provide 20 recipients $2,000 each. I spoke with Tesa Pearman, a past recipient, to see what she's been up to, and how the scholarship has helped further inspire her career path.

Academy of Screen and Digital Printing Technologies – Say What??

Did you know that since 1973, the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association’s (SGIA) Academy of Screen and Digital Printing Technologies has grown to include over 70 members representing the highest degree of technological expertise in the screen and digital printing industry? You may recognize names like Michel Caza, Charlie Taublieb, Scott Fresener, Laura Maybaum, as well as myself, Marci Kinter. Members of the Academy come from all parts of the industry:  educators, printers, chemical suppliers, substrate manufacturers and consultants.

How a Student Gained Recognition at Printing’s Largest Expo

Preparing the Next Generation: The Educator Perspective

Earlier this year, SGIA staff visited Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia to meet with Hitoshi Ujiie, the Director of the Center for Excellence in Surface Imaging, which is part of the Kanbar College of Design, Engineering and Commerce. We learned more about his program and how he’s preparing the future of the printing industry.
